For Dutch Public TV we produced a four part documentary series about education in general, and specifically the UN goals in Mali, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Yemen. One hundred and eighty-nine countries have committed themselves to eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aimed at eradicating extreme poverty and improving the welfare of their people by the year 2015.
The second of the goals is: Achieve universal primary education with the specific target of ensuring that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. This goal is known as the Education For All (EFA) The goals have not been met, but a lot of progress has been made. We observe the strive for the EFA goals in an Islamic context.
